Our Adventure Awaits!

Tour Timeframe: March 25 – April 1 2023 (Saturday-Saturday)

Destination: Costa Rica – San Jose, Arenal and Manuel Antonio Regions

This tour is an opportunity for families to travel together and explore an amazing, Spanish-speaking country while learning Spanish, making wonderful memories, exploring beautiful sites and building lasting friendships. The trip is geared towards families who are eager to discover and enjoy learning about new countries. This personalized learning experience starts from the time we meet at the airport.  Senora Gergely will travel with the group every step of the way and will ensure that everything is taken care of, from accommodations to dinner, school visit and all cultural activities.  Your family can relax and enjoy the wonderful experience of being immersed in the Pura Vida culture. Rafa, our expert local guide, will provide specific sightseeing tours and teach us about the history, science, art and architecture of this beautiful Central American country.

Day 1: March 25, 2023 - Saturday

  • Fly to San Jose

  • Meet our local guide at the airport

  • Hotel check in and welcome lunch

  • Afternoon tour of San Jose: explore Avenida Central and the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum; Teatro NacionalParque Nacional

  • Dinner: Restaurante Olio in Barrio Escalante

 

Day 2: March 26, 2023 – Sunday

  • Breakfast at the hotel

  • Depart San Jose and travel towards the Arenal Region

  • Stop for lunch and folkloric performance in Quesada. Traditional folkloric dances are very popular at festivals and parades in Costa Rica. At this lunch in the city of Quesada, enjoy a show of merengue and cumbia, performed by local folkloric dancers.

  • Depart Quesada and travel to La Fortuna.  Stop at the Sloth Territory. Visit the Sloth’s Territory, an amazing reserve located close to La Fortuna.  This gem along the La Havana River has vibrant flora and fauna, offering opportunities to observe a variety of animals, including sloths, birds, and red frogs.

  • Arrive in La Fortuna and check in at the hotel

  • Dinner on your own at the hotel

Day 3: March 27, 2023 – Monday

  • Breakfast at the hotel

  • Visit Escuela Sonafluca, a local school in La Fortuna. We will attend a class and gain insight into the life of a Costa Rican student. Students will converse in Spanish, participate in a class and see an authentic performance by Costa Rican students.

  • Lunch at La Choza del Laurel restaurant, La Fortuna

  • Free time for shopping and exploring the city of La Fortuna OR free time for optional activities

  • Evening: enjoy the thermal pools, relax and dinner on your own

Day 4: March 28, 2023 – Tuesday

  • Breakfast at the hotel

  • Arenal Volcano Visit: enjoy a hike through Arenal Volcano National Park, the 1968 lava trail.

  • Lunch in La Fortuna: Restaurante Selva Rustica

  • Take a coffee and chocolate tour – a unique opportunity to immerse yourself into the Costa Rican culture and traditions of the ‘ticos’.  Enjoy a family run coffee and chocolate plantation tour, including the chance to taste and try a variety of coffee and chocolates. On this tour families will learn the entire coffee process from the seed to the delicious cup of coffee.  The sweetest part of the tour includes an educational session about the cocoa bean plantation and even getting the chance to try dark, white and milk chocolates.

  • Evening free time for relaxation at the Hot Springs and dinner on your own

Day 5: March 29, 2023 – Wednesday

  • Breakfast at the hotel

  • Mistico Hanging Bridges: enjoy the guided tour in the beautiful Mistico rainforest.  Mistico sits on over 600 acres of land and has a high diversity of wildlife.  From hanging bridges to the beautiful wildlife sanctuary, this guided tour offers a true insight into one of the most beautiful rainforests of Costa Rica. At the end of this tour, enjoy a delicious lunch in the restaurant located inside the park, from one of the most privileged views of the Arenal Volcano.

  • Visit La Fortuna Waterfall.  La Fortuna Waterfall — meaning “the fortune” in Spanish — is one of the most visited waterfalls in all of Costa Rica. Located in the Alajuela Province, the waterfall is fed by the Arenal River, which travels through the rainforest in the Arenal Mountain range.  This is a MUST SEE waterfall.   

  • Evening is free for exploration or optional activities; dinner on your own

Day 6: March 30, 2023 – Thursday

  • Breakfast at the hotel

  • Check out from hotel

  • Depart to Manuel Antonio Region

  • Lunch along the way to Manuel Antonio (Rancho Cocodrilos)

  • Check in at the hotel

  • Afternoon is free: enjoy the resort properties: pools, tennis or spend some time at the beach, near the hotel OR optional activities around the area

  • Dinner on your own

 

Day 7: March 31, 2023 – Friday

  • Breakfast at the hotel

  • Hike through and discover the Manuel Antonio National Park, which is located by the town of Quepos. Manuel Antonio National Park offers something for everyone: rainforest, beautiful beaches, casual forest trails, amazing wildlife and a wealth of activities.

  • Stay in the park and enjoy the beautiful beaches of Manuel Antonio or return to the hotel for free time.  You may also explore the region, go to a nearby beach, play, rest and relax by the pool and/or participate in a zip lining adventure.

  • Lunch on your own

  • Family dinner at the hotel

Day 8: April 1, 2023 – Saturday

  • Breakfast at the hotel and check out

  • Depart towards San Jose at 7:30 am

  • Arrive at the airport and return to the USA
